A friend popped the metal heatsink/shield off the motherboard (it's only held on with spring clips) and checked the voltage across the low value resistor in series with the power rail which indicates that when you press the power button the tablet starts to boot but stops again after less than a second and before lighting up the screen.

My guess is either the software is corrupt or one of the BGA chips has either failed internally or one of the joints underneath has fractured.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01437160073572834508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4542336944240448847.post-34959722120930850412017-10-17T17:38:45.447+01:002017-10-17T17:38:45.447+01:00It is the innovative product range and online comp...It is the innovative product range and online compatibility that has earned Tesco a vast customer base and credibility across the globe. read more
Kavin cookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00129361528600208935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4542336944240448847.post-90241086532272069432016-04-25T13:09:01.512+01:002016-04-25T13:09:01.512+01:00Yes, it was factory wiped, but if you use google p...Yes, it was factory wiped, but if you use google play backup it should restore the apps (game saves unfortunately will be lost). It's the fact they changed the motherboard that is curious, so whether something had failed on it, or if the failure condition causes it to 'shutdown' I'm unsure.

But, it unfortunately doesn't help others out with similar situations since it appears to be a dead mbd.
Andy Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02606411327841038008noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4542336944240448847.post-68986431190678269632016-04-23T12:33:46.045+01:002016-04-23T12:33:46.045+01:00Any news about your HUDL2?Any news about your HUDL2?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08445020959157046693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4542336944240448847.post-76691627554294020052016-04-11T15:36:45.533+01:002016-04-11T15:36:45.533+01:00Thanks Woody, yes I agree something strange on the...Thanks Woody, yes I agree something strange on the mbd. No red light, not powering on despite various combinations of power button/volume up/volume down.

With mine, voltage on red wires from battery to Hudl2 is 4.0V. Yellow wire is 0.3V. Green wire fluctuates between 0.2 and 0.3V every second. These figures are the same when it is connected to the USB charger and the same when not connected to charger.
Have also bought another usb charging port off ebay but made no difference.

I agree that it seems like a problem with the mainboard which could be tested by swapping a known working board perhaps from one off Ebay? That'll probably be my next option.

RegardsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
